The height of the compactum is 900mm allowing for the parent to stand comfortably whilst changing nappies or dressing your baby. The depth is 640mm allowing for your changing mat to be perpendicular which makes changing a baby's nappy much easier.

Extra volume mid-century modern compactum

We have completed another version of our extra volume mid-century modern compactum, this time with solid oak drawer fronts.

This unit provides a large surface area with sufficient depth to make changing your baby as easy as possible with your changing mat being perpendicular to the wall.

The extra storage space provided by the drawers and cupboard will be very useful in baby nurseries without much storage space.

Mama Magic - Best New Product Award

Single wardrobe

Our single armoire has been a very popular piece of nursery furniture. We have recently made a few with doors. This armoire was made to match our vintage compactum made with crystal knobs and a decorative detail on the curve.

A single wardrobe is very convenient. It can fit into even a small nursery and provide extra storage space for babies clothes and accessories.

Our vintage armoire is painted in an antique white with our special antique effect in the grooves. We put a small hanging rail at the top for hanging small baby clothes. Two shelves provide space for storing other clothes or nappies.

The drawer at the bottom is on runners making it easy to access.

If you have a small baby nursery and don't have space for a full size compactum you can choose our small compactum.
You still get all the functionality of our full sized compactum which means that changing your newborn baby will be a breeze.

The compactum has deep roller drawers, storage cupboard, 650mm depth to fit all changing mats, and a rail around the edge to stop anything falling off.

This compactum is finished in our antique white and the customer chose the crystal handles. You can choose your own colour and handles.

Vintage Compactum / Changing table

Our most popular product is our vintage compactum. Designed to have the ideal proportions needed for changing a newborn baby, and painted in a way that makes the compactum look like a real antique.

Our talented painters paint the compactum with our special antique white paint, which is then finished off with our unique antique effect. The compactum is then given 'antique' looking handles which really polishes the compactum off beautifully.

Baby Furniture South Africa

Little Legends designs and manufactures beautiful baby and nursery furniture in Cape Town, South Africa. Our baby furniture is cleverly designed to to be both beautiful and functional, ensuring your babies nursery looks great, but also works well.

The most important item in any nursery is the Changing Table/Compactum which gets used every day for over three years. It is at the changing table that you will be dressing your baby, brushing your babies hair, applying creams, and yes, changing many many nappies.

Key features of a babies compactum are the following:
Depth - The compactum should be at least 600mm deep. This is the length of a changing mat and it is infinitely easier to change a baby straight on rather than side on.

The compactum should also have a rail or ridge around the edge. Once your baby is old enough to move, the won't stop moving, and everything within reach will be pushed and pulled. Furthermore, babies are very wrigley, and are quite capable of wiggling their way right of the edge of the changing table.

Other items are nice to have on a compactum. Firstly, drawers on rollers, to ensure the drawers are easily opened and closed when you have one hand holding onto a wriggling baby. Deep compactum drawers and extra storage space is helpful as babies tend to have masses of creams, lotions and ointments that need regular application whilst changing.

If you can get all the above in a changing table that also looks good in your home then you are in luck. Our most popular compactums have a vintage look to them and are painted in our signature antique white with our special aging effect. You can choose handles that match the other furniture in your home or use our standard vintage handles.
